The Holiday Party will take place on December 13, 2023 at the home of Lori Jouppi. This will replace the December meeting. More information will be available closer to the date and all are welcome!
Please join us for our major fundraiser of the year! It's sure to be a fun evening with like-minded people! We are excited to announce our keynote speaker, Senator Jeremy Moss and our Emcee, Lori Goldman. We will also hear from candidates as the 2024 elections will be only a year away!
State Senator Jeremy Moss is the President Pro Tempore of the Michigan Senate, where he is also serving his second term. Always looking to build relationships across the aisle, Moss has successfully had legislation signed into law to reduce unfair employment barriers for people with past criminal records, help homeowners make home improvements by lowering property taxes, allow public-private partnerships to rebuild crumbling bridges, and to create more pathways for students who dropped out of high school so they can complete their degree. He also was instrumental in amending the Elliot Larsen Civil Rights Act. Moss holds the distinction of having been the youngest-ever elected official on the Southfield City Council (2011) and has not let up on public service since. After City Council, he was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives, serving as the Democratic Caucus Whip, and then became the Assistant Democratic Leader in his first term in the Michigan Senate.
Moss earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Michigan State University, where he participated in multiple student-led humanitarian aid missions nationally and across the globe. He lives in Southfield.
Milan Peele is confirmed as our speaker to discuss the UAW Stand Up Strike, what the membership is fighting for, why those demands are so important, and how the community can support striking auto workers.
My name is Ethan Petzold and I serve as President of the Canton Democratic Club. On behalf of our board and our membership, thank you for visiting our website!
The Canton Democratic Club is our local arm of the Democratic Party committed to electing Democrats to public office at every level and advancing the values of our Party at the local level.
We invite you to become a member of the club here and come to one of our monthly membership meetings on the 3rd Wednesday of every month (unless otherwise noted) at 7pm at the Canton Township Administration Building to meet fellow Democrats and get involved ahead of this critical election. Don't hesitate to reach out to us at cantondemclub@gmail.com if you have any questions. Let's go win in 2024!
"Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the
ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” - Barack Obama
The Canton Democratic Club was formed in 2013 to elect democrats, advocate for progressive values, and build progressive leadership. We believe that democracy thrives when informed citizens actively participate in the political process through advocacy, action and discussion. Unfortunately, we now see how fragile our democracy can be. Everyday, it seems as if we are witnessing an assault on the values that we hold dear.
Now is the time for action! We must work for change and it begins within our own community. It is a day to day, issue by issue battle which requires us to be united as a party as never before with battles to come including healthcare, taxes, climate and the next Presidential Election in 2024.
We are your neighbors, your friends, your school teachers, your union members, and your elected officials. We have close to 200 members. Every day we are building a larger, more diverse and inclusive membership. The Democratic Party in Canton is stronger than ever. Join Today!
Membership meetings occur the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 7pm-8:30 pm, followed by a social hour at a Canton establishment. Our meetings provide an opportunity to learn from a variety of speakers invited to discuss hot topics in all levels of government, plus updates from our Elected Representatives.
The Club provides us with an unparalleled chance to meet candidates and ask questions about their platforms. In fact, leading up to the 2020 primary elections, most Michigan candidates running for local, state and federal contests spoke at least once at our meetings or events.
The Social Event Hour occurs immediately following our monthly meetings from 8:45-10pm. We believe that our community has many great things to offer and we want you to come and experience them with us. Each month the Canton Democratic Club chooses a different Canton business to go to after our monthly meeting. This is an opportunity for club members, guests, volunteers, candidates and elected officials to gather in a less formal setting to get to know each other on a more personal level while trying the many different restaurants and gathering places throughout Canton Township. We advertise the locations of our events each month on our social media pages. Please join us at one of our monthly Social Event Hours. We look forward to seeing you at the next gathering!
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals for the next election cycle. Your generous donation will fund our mission of supporting Democratic Candidates in 2024.
